Will This Bucket Fit My Excavator Or Backhoe?

Buckets can fit a variety of makes & models of excavator & backhoe machines. In addition to that, many machines had a variety of stick options from the factory or dealership, each with different widths & pin sizes.

To verify that a bucket will fit your machine, there are two require measurements (A&B). If you have a quick attach system, a third measurements is often required (C).

​

  • A- The dipper stick width. This is the width of of the stick at the ears pin holes. If the bucket's ear width is too wide for your machine's stick, spacers can be manufactured by a machine shop to make it fit tight.

  • B- Your pin diameter. Some machines have different front and rear pin sizes, so be sure to check both. If a pin size is not the correct size, a bushing can be manufactured by a machine shop to help it fit tight. 

  • C- The distance between pin centers. This measurement is required when attaching a bucket to a machine with a quick attach system. Most hydraulic quick attach systems allow for several inches of difference between a maximum & minimum pin to pin measurement.

Having the right bucket can make getting your job done much easier and more efficient. While a standard digging bucket for your backhoe or excavator is well rounded for most jobs, other buckets have special designs or shapes for an intended purpose. Buckets with a V-shape are built to help cut through hard, rocky soils. Some buckets also have a ripper mounted on them for when a hard patch is encountered during digging. Skeleton buckets are built in a grid pattern to allow small debris and rocks to fall away, while scooping desired rocks or items, such as scrap or bushes out.
